Here’s a list of shows that I’m looking forward to seeing in the coming months:
1. A Little Night Music at Walter Kerr Theatre – Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s A Little Night Music receives its first ever Broadway revival, starting Nov. 24 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Excited? You should be because the cast that features Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angela Lansbury, Alexander Hanson, Aaron Lazar, Erin Davie, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Leigh Ann Larkin and Ramona Mallory. Finian’s Rainbow will have a run for its money to win the Tony Award for Best Revival, especially if Zeta-Jones can deliver. It opens on December 13th and currently the run is open-ended. More info here. Twitter.
2. Fela! at Eugene O’Neill Theatre – Opening on October 19th, the buzz for this show has already began. It’s been called “electric” and “passionate”. We’re not totally sure of what demographic will go see this musical, but we’re interested to see what it’s all about. It definitely looks interesting and provocative. Website. Twitter.
3. Spiderman: Turn off the Dark at Hilton Theatre – With all of the reports about the lack of funds on this ridiculously expensive musical (we hear 52 million), we fear that it might not actually happen. Over the summer, I was able to see some of the set design and listen to the title track, “Turn off the Dark” at the Broadway Teachers Workshop. And on both accounts was I super excited with what I heard and saw. If they can pull off what they are building, in regards to the set, than it’s going to be incredible. They are doing things that have never been done on a Broadway stage before and for that, I can at least say I’m excited. Plus, they just released who their Peter Parker is: Reeve Carney. Let’s hope that the upcoming meeting will help. More info here.
